Born 1971, made art.

Artist, sculptor, and ceramicist Lincoln Mayne is fascinated with how we communicate through art and design, with clay at the center of his practice.
“Clay holds the truth, whether I like it or not. It takes every intention, moment of doubt, and happy accident and holds them in perpetuity. I am drawn to that kind of honesty. There is nowhere to hide in clay. Every decision is laid bare, long after the moment has passed. What was once soft and responsive becomes fixed, sealing the truth of its making. Fired, it becomes an object out of time, a rigid witness standing still as the world continues around it.”
Born in 1971 in Sydney, Australia, Mayne currently lives and works in Los Angeles. He studied fine arts at Claremont School of Arts in Perth, Western Australia, graduating with a sculpture major in 1996. He has been a wandering artist of both medium and geography for the past 25 years, working in Australia, the UK, and the United States.
